What Are Thread Veins?
Thread veins are tiny blood vessels that have become permanently enlarged and are visible through the surface of the skin.

Unlike bruising, they don’t disappear with time and cannot usually be removed with creams or skincare products.
Thread veins are completely harmless, but many people find them cosmetically frustrating.

We treat facial thread veins and small superficial thread veins suitable for Advanced Electrolysis. Larger varicose veins require medical assessment and are not suitable for this treatment.
What Causes Thread Veins?

What Do Thread Veins Look Like?

Thread veins can appear as single tiny vessels or as small networks of fine red lines.
Some are bright red, while others appear darker or slightly purple depending on the depth of the blood vessel.
Are Thread Veins Dangerous?​

In the vast majority of cases, no.

Facial thread veins are usually a cosmetic concern rather than a medical problem.

However, we’ll always assess the area carefully before treatment. If anything appears unusual or outside our scope of practice, we’ll advise you accordingly before carrying out treatment.
Is It Definitely a Cherry Angioma?​
Not every red mark is a thread vein.
​
Sometimes similar-looking lesions include:

We’ll carefully assess the area before recommending treatment. If we’re ever unsure, we won’t treat the area until we’re confident it’s safe to do so.
How Does Advanced Electrolysis Remove Thread Veins?​​
​
Advanced Electrolysis uses a very fine sterile probe to deliver a carefully controlled electrical current to the tiny blood vessel.

This causes the walls of the vessel to coagulate, allowing the body to naturally reabsorb the treated vein over time.
​
The treatment is extremely precise and is particularly suitable for small facial thread veins.
Does Treatment Hurt?​​
​​
Most clients describe treatment as a brief sharp sensation followed by warmth.The area around the nose can be a little more sensitive than other areas of the face, but treatment is still very manageable and most clients tolerate it well.
Will They Disappear Straight Away?
Many thread veins disappear immediately during treatment, which is one of the reasons clients love this procedure.
However, not every vein behaves in the same way. Some may require one or two treatment sessions to achieve the best possible result, particularly if you’re aiming for complete clearance.

What Will It Look Like Afterwards?​​

Immediately after treatment, the surrounding skin will usually look red due to the heat generated during the procedure. This is completely normal and usually settles quite quickly.

Tiny protective crusts may then form over the treated areas. These can make the veins appear slightly darker for a few days while the skin heals, but this is a normal part of the healing process and should not be a cause for concern.

Can Thread Veins Come Back?​​

Once a treated vein has successfully closed, it is unlikely to reopen.
​
However, your body can naturally develop new thread veins over time, particularly if you have a genetic tendency, rosacea or ongoing sun exposure.

If your thread veins are caused by repeated irritation, such as frequent nose blowing due to hay fever or allergies, new veins may develop in the future. Although treatment is still very effective, maintenance treatments may occasionally be required.

Can I shower afterwards?
Yes, but avoid very hot water on the treated area for the first 24–48 hours.

We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours, as increased circulation may affect the early healing process.

Will they disappear immediately?
Many do, although some veins need a little longer to fade or may require a second treatment.

Will I have scabs?
