What Inclusivity Means to Me

At JEMS, we carry out gender affirming treatments on all kinds of clients.

At Jems Health & Beauty, inclusivity isn’t something we’ve added in it’s how we’ve always worked.

For me, it’s quite simple. I’ve always seen people as people.

Not labels. Not categories. Not assumptions based on how someone looks, where they’re from, or how they live their life. Just people, each with their own story, preferences, and reasons for walking through our door.

Over the years, I’ve met clients from all walks of life, and one thing is always true, everyone wants to feel comfortable, respected, and understood. That’s what inclusivity means to me in a salon environment.

It means creating a space where you don’t feel judged or out of place.

It means being welcomed exactly as you are, whether that’s your first visit or you’ve been coming to us for years.

It means listening properly, not making assumptions about what someone wants, needs, or feels comfortable with.

We’ve always been a gender-inclusive salon, welcoming clients of all gender identities, including those in the trans community. For us, that’s never been a “policy” we treat everybody the same.

Inclusivity also means understanding that every client is different. Some people want to chat, others want quiet time. Some feel confident walking in, others might feel nervous or unsure. Our job is to meet you where you are and make you feel at ease.

It’s also about awareness. Recognising that people experience the world differently, whether that’s through neurodivergence, personal experiences, or life circumstances and adapting how we care for you in a way that feels supportive.

I won’t pretend we’re perfect, but we are always learning, always listening, and always aiming to create an environment where every client feels safe, resperespected, and genuinely cared for.

Because at the end of the day, that’s what this industry should be about.

Helping people feel comfortable in themselves.
